NCO organizes Winter Day Camps
for about 25 days during the winter vacation of the schools
during January - February, at the Central Office premises
of NCO at Bal Mandir, Naxal Kathmandu.
Incepted in 1992, it is one of the most popular and successful
programs of NCO.
More than 100 children, 70 from communities and 30 from
NCO's orphanages, were originally benefiting from the
camps. However, considering the growing demands, now the
intake of the camps has been increased to accommodate
about 150 children since 2000.
We hope to extend the program to other districts to serve
more children.
The Children's Winter Day Camp concentrates to bring out
creative talents of children through competitions and
programs; bringing children from various sectors of the
society at one place and fostering peer relations and
healthy exchange of ideas and feelings; extending support
and counseling opportunities; creating a forum for children's
physical, emotional and cognitive development; and utilizing
the off-school days for productive and creative endeavors
for the development of the children.
Children
from 9 to 13 years old participate in the following
programs befitting their interests:
- Extra studies on English,
Nepali, Science and Mathematics
- Children's Literature and
Journalism
