The Toddler's School was established in July 10, 2003 with the support from two inspirational social workers, Ms. Baljinder, a Canadaian and Ms. Jean Scott, an American. It operates under the Kindergarten project of NCO. Children 18 months old to 3 year olds are taught to perform their daily activities themselves. The school currently has 18 children including 3 children with physical and mental challenges. After the establishment of the Toddler's School, children now have an opportunity to spend significant amount of time at a place where they learn on hygiene and cleanliness such as wiping their noses, washing up, disposing dirty napkins; visiting restrooms, putting on slippers. The School opens on weekdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Children also eat and drink on their own. They are also imparted knowledge on identifying colors, objects, and introduced to fundamental conversation. They play with different toys, puzzles and read book. Children also learn the basic rhymes and are told stories. Afternoon light meals with milk and fruits are provided to the children by the co-founder, Ms. Jean Scott. Children are also provided with lessons on culture and traditions by celebrating festivals. They learn family and societal values in a child friendly environment without force or coercion of any kind. These children crave love and affection, which they have been deprived from quite an early age. Teachers and volunteers provide these children with motherly love and care. |
